Weston Lane, Otley

A Fresh Look for Shopping on Weston Lane, Otley

Have your say

We are sharing draft plans to redevelop the existing shops on Weston Lane, Otley, with a modern convenience store and two smaller retail units.

The proposals would bring new investment to the site, improve the shopping environment and provide a wider choice of food and everyday essentials for the local community.

Before submitting a planning application to Leeds City Council, we would welcome your views. This consultation provides an opportunity to review the draft plans and help shape the proposals before they are finalised.

The proposed development

The proposals would replace the existing shops with new retail premises designed to meet the needs of modern retailers and their customers.

At the heart of the development would be a new convenience store, offering a wider range of fresh food, groceries and household essentials. The aim is to make it easier for residents to meet their day-to-day shopping needs close to home.

Alongside the convenience store, two smaller shops would be available to let, providing opportunities for other businesses to establish themselves on Weston Lane. These units would complement the main store, broaden the services available locally and allow customers to visit several businesses in one trip.

Together, the new shops would create an updated local shopping destination serving Weston Lane and the surrounding neighbourhood.

Access and parking

Customer parking would remain at the front of the development, providing convenient access close to the shop entrances.

The draft plans also include dedicated accessible parking bays for disabled customers and cycle parking for those travelling by bike. These facilities would help accommodate different customer needs and support a choice of ways to visit the shops.

Benefits of the proposals

The proposed redevelopment would deliver:

  • Investment in Weston Lane, replacing the existing shops with modern retail premises.

  • An improved shopping environment for local residents and visitors.

  • A wider choice of fresh food and everyday essentials, helping residents shop close to home and giving residents convenient access to shops without having to cross the river on busy roads.

  • Two smaller retail units available to let, providing opportunities for businesses to serve the local community.

  • Employment opportunities within the convenience store and additional shops.

  • Convenient customer parking, including accessible bays, alongside cycle parking.
